Have you eaten your colors today?

I just saw this in Currents section of the New York Times and couldn't resist posting it. It's the NMS (Nature Matching System) placemat by Tattfoo Tan, a Malaysian-born artist, and was inspired by a visit to the Union Square Greenmarket in New York. Mr. Tan photographed his purchases and, using Photoshop, created a grid of squares in colors that corresponded to particular foods. According to the blurb on his website, the placemat serves "as a reminder to consume your daily recommended doses of color... the more colors come together at a meal, the better."

The place mat is available FREE at Foragers Market, 56 Adams Street, Brooklyn, or, if you're not going to be in New York anytime soon, you can email him directly for an artist signed copy (you pay for shipping). There's also a mural based on the placemat located at Front Street between Adams and Pearl Streets in Brooklyn's Dumbo neighborhood that will be on view through January 2009.

I love it! Good thing Tattfoo Tan didn't stop by the business lunch I went to on Wednesday. It was all Southern comfort food and his place mat version of it would have been all beige!
